Processionary Caterpillars

Processionary Caterpillars We were toddling around in the woods the other day when Eloise spotted this line of caterpillars trundling across the track we were following.

We spent a few minutes picking up some stragglers using leaves (we didn't want to touch those hairy things, they looked as though they wouldn't be good for you) and putting them down next to their voyaging compadres so they could rejoin the procession.

  1. We have these caterpillars in Spain and they are extremely dangerous especially to animals. They are best left alone. Here if you have pine trees in your garden they have to be by law sprayed every year to eradicate these pests.

  2. Yes, I did some Googling and found out that they are quite reviled and treated as pests in lots of places.

I definitely wouldn't want to touch one.
